Shocking drone images have revealed the scale of what is thought to be the worst moorland fire in the Peak District since 2018.
Dozens of firefighters were called out to the Goyt Valley on Wednesday (30 April), with smoke seen as far away as Stockport.
People living near to the Cat and Fiddle were urged to keep doors and windows shut on Thursday morning (01 May), as the fire continued to rage.
In a statement, the Peak District Moorland Group said: "Multiple shooting estates and partners are attending with numerous FRS personnel.
"The area is under a United Utilities management regime and has had extensive interventions over the last 20 years.
"With multiple nests of all ground nesting birds being burnt out and the fire heading towards commercial forestry, it’s the worst this area has seen since the 2018 fires when 40 hectares burnt on Ravenslow, one of the most prized blanket bog areas in this location."
People have been asked to stay away from the area while crews continue to contain the fire.
