Footage shared online on Monday night (May 2) showing cows running around Chipping Sodbury has been shared dozens of times, with lots of people making jokes about the situation.

One has said it must have been "cow-e-oke" night at the local pub, while another said the farmer probably wasn't too "amooosed".

A third said they must have called "last udders" at the bar.

In a statement Avon and Somerset Police told us they first received phone calls about the cows at around 8:25pm.

"Officers attended and worked with the farmer to herd the cows to safe locations from where the animals could be collected," a spokesperson told us.

"The police presence in the area was reduced once the cows had been secured at about 10.50pm.

"No further calls were received in relation to this incident after that time."

Other puns shared online include that the scene was a "load of bullocks" and that the "steaks were high", while several people made reference to the film Hot Fuzz, in which rural police officers in the west country struggle to catch a swan.

Paraphrasing a famous scene one person commented, "no luck catching them cows then".
