A man has been charged over a crash between a tram and a van which left a three-year-old girl dead in Manchester city centre.

The collision happened on Moseley Way on Saturday morning (22 February), and police began a search for the driver, who left the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have now charged 35-year-old Rawal Rehman, of Lambton Road, with causing death by dangerous driving.

The girl, Louisa Palmisan from Burnley, was walking along the road when she was hit by the tram, which had been forced onto the pavement by the van.

She was rushed to hospital but died from her injuries.

In a tribute, her parents said: "“She was full of creativity and joy, and she absolutely loved going to nursery every day.

“Her absence has left a devastating void in our family—she was our only child, our whole world.

“We were simply enjoying a happy family day out in Manchester when this unimaginable tragedy struck. In an instant, our lives were shattered beyond repair.

“The pain of losing her is unbearable, and we miss her more than words can ever express.”

Flowers have been left at the scene of the crash.

Mr. Rehman will appear at Manchester Magistrate's Court on Wednesday (26 February).
