Homes in the Springbank area of Cheltenham have been evacuated overnight after a major house fire.

Emergency services were called to Springbank Way at around 9.40pm last night (01/02) to reports a bungalow had caught on fire and collapsed.

A womanā€™s been taken to hospital for injuries and a cordon remains in place.

The incident prompted a search and rescue operation with people urged to avoid the area.

Issuing an update last night, Gloucestershire Police said: ā€œEmergency services are at the scene of a fire in Springbank, Cheltenham, reported shortly after 9.40pm.

ā€œOne person has been taken to hospital. Homes nearby have been evacuated with cordons in place and those living nearby are advised to keep windows & doors closed.ā€

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service has also been at the scene and urging residents nearby to keep doors and windows closed.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, they said: ā€œPlease be aware that GFRS are in attendance at an incident in the Springbank area of Cheltenham.

ā€œPlease avoid the area at this time. And could we kindly request that all residents keep their doors and windows shut. Thank you.ā€

The incidentā€™s also prompted road closures overnight with the A4013 Princess Elizabeth Way closed overnight while emergency services responded.
