Fully vaccinated travellers into England will no longer need to test once they arrive, according to plans announced by the Prime Minister.
Currently, people who have gotten both jabs must take either a lateral flow test of a PCR test on their second day in England and self-isolate until the result comes back.
The test must be from an approved company from the government and must come back negative before travellers can leave self-isolation.
But new plans announced by Boris Johnson will see these rules scrapped for people who have had two doses of the vaccine.
No date has been set for the rule change, but it is expected to be implemented in time for the February half-term holidays.
The announcement is set to boost the travel industry, which had been hit hard as a result of the pandemic.
Speaking while on a visit to Milton Keynes, the Prime Minister said that the time had come for the UK to open up.
"What we're doing on travel, to show that this country is open for business, open for travellers, you will see changes so that people arriving no longer have to take tests if they have been vaccinated, if they have been double vaccinated," he said.
Rules for those who have not been fully vaccinated (either having one dose or none) are expected to remain in place.
Currently, those who are unvaccinated must take a pre-departure test and two further PCR tests once in England. Unvaccinated travellers also need to self-isolate for ten days.
