The funeral for Bebe King, who was killed in the Southport stabbings, has taken place.

Bebe, who was the youngest of the three girls fatally stabbed in the attack, was aged just six when she died.

She was killed alongside Alice da Silva Aguiar and Elsie Dot Stancombe during the mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event in Southport on July 29th.

The six-year-old was laid to rest on Saturday (August 17th), following a private funeral at her parents' request.

MP for Southport Patrick Hurley encouraged those who wished to pay tribute to Bebe to "light a candle in Bebe's memory".

The full statement read: "Today is the funeral of Bebe King. My thoughts and prayers are with her family through this difficult time.

"In honouring their wishes for a private funeral, I encourage anyone who wishes to pay their respects to light a candle in Bebe's memory and to work for a better future."

In a tribute released by the family shortly after the stabbings, Bebe's parents Ben and Lauren King said that their daughter was "full of joy, light and love".

They added that Bebe is and will always be in their hearts, and she will be remembered as "a sweet, kind and spirited girl".

It was revealed that Bebe's older sister Genie, aged 9, had witnessed the attack at the local dance hall and managed to escape.

She was also praised by her family for her "incredible strength and courage" as she ran away from the incident as it was taking place.
