Kat is back behind the mic this weekend on the Cool Saturday Show

Last spring Kat Walker surprised everyone at Cool FM with big plans to put down her stethoscope, needles and headphones and move to sunny Australia.

But as we all know a lot can change in a year…

“I’ve always wanted to go to Australia, it’s always been on my bucket list. The plan was to try nursing ‘down under’ for a year, they’re crying out for nurses over there.

“I fancied a change in the weather and scenery, I couldn’t wait to soak up the sun and the chilled Aussie lifestyle. I’ve got loads of friends and family over there, so it felt like a natural move.”

When Kat first pitched the idea to her co-hosts Stuart Robinson and Deputy Dave, they had a mixed response. “Stuart was really supportive, he has family there too, so he got it. Deputy Dave on the other hand…he always joked that I’d never go, so much so he was willing to put money on it.

“A lot of people didn’t believe I was actually going to move, but I had flights booked, my visa, my registration, a job and an apartment lined up. It was all sorted, I even sold my car, but then Mel walked into my life and it all changed.”

“I first met Mel last April, but obviously I had no intention on starting a relationship, I was set on moving to the other side of the world. But as the summer went on, I started to develop more feelings. It’s not every day you meet someone and instantly click with them the way we have.”

Mel lives and works in America, so Kat did get to spend some time last year travelling. Where better to fall in love than Disneyland!? 💕

“It’s not like I missed a once in a lifetime experience, Australia will still be there, it’s just not the right timing for me just now. I’m really happy in this new relationship, and very lucky to return my previous jobs, including the Cool FM team.”

Deputy Dave called it – Kat is officially back and set to join the boys on the Cool Saturday Show this weekend again.

Catching up with the team over Christmas, Kat joked that Deputy Dave’s first words to her were of course, ‘I told you so.’

“You know what he’s like, he hasn’t stopped keeping me going yet, I did have to tell he was in fact right. Stuart knows Mel, so he was happy for us. He’s a tough guy to impress, so that’s saying something. If Stuart thinks he’s a keeper, he must be a good guy.”

“I’m so excited to get back in the studios with my boys, we all get on so well, we’re the most random bunch, but I love it. I hear they’ve been missing me dearly, so let the torture begin!”
