WATCH: 'We'll work hard...you never know where that takes you' - Knowles on priorities at Glenavon
Midfielder joins former Cliftonville boss Gerard Lyttle on latest BetMcLean football show
Ballymena midfielder James Knowles says no-one at the club is getting carried away with their recent win over champions Crusaders.
And he says they are merely taking one game at a time – rather than having a longer-term strategy.
The Sky Blues now sit third, and tonight (Friday) they host Glenavon.
Knowles believes a win there would trigger talk of a push for the title.
He was speaking as a guest on our latest BetMcLean show, in partnership with NIFL, now available to view on Cool FM’s Facebook page and to download as a podcast (see below) nFstets Bgest
"If we beat Glenavon, everyone's going to start talking to us about pushing for the league, and taking us seriously. But if you get caught up in that sort of thing, it puts you off. You have to think about the game on Friday. We'll do our business, work hard - you never know where it could bring us,” he said.
Knowles says their good start to the season is down to competition within the squad.
He was one of the many summer arrivals at the Showgrounds.
"We knew it was going to generate a lot of competition throughout the squad. But it's been done in a good way where everybody can play their part. I think it keeps the players on their toes and gets the best out of them,” he added.
Also joining Knowles is former Cliftonville boss Gerard Lyttle who is backing his old side to improve – as long as they sort out their defence.
