Former Northern Ireland international Sammy Clingan has opened up about a torrid spell last season at Linfield.

The 33-year-old joined the Blues from Kilmarnock but ended up spending much of the treble-winning season on the side-lines, wracked with injury.

Clingan, a guest on our latest Danske Bank Premiership Show, speaks candidly about his time at Windsor Park and tells us that while he picked up a league champions medal did not think he deserved it.

“I've had a horrendous time with injury,” he tells us.

Clingan who now stars in Glenavon’s midfield said he had even contemplated retirement but is now simply “glad to be back playing football.”

Also on our panel this week is Glentoran legend, Colin Nixon, now manager of Ards.

He talks about the struggles as a boss of the difficulty he has with losing after such an incredible career as a player.

“Management is a lonely place sometimes when you are not picking up points,” he said.

Football writer Steven Beacom also joined the panel and described Nixon as the Irish League’s best-ever right-back.

As ever the show is presented by Cool FM’s Pete Snodden.
