Matthew Shevlin says he's 'made the right decision' after penning a new three-year contract to remain at Coleraine.

The 25-year-old striker has scored 68 goals since joining the Bannsiders from Linfield in January 2021 and will now go full-time with the club, after signing the deal which takes him throubh to 2027.

He admits he agonsied over the decision to move from part-time football.

“It was a tough decision for me as it has meant stepping away from my full time job, but after discussing it with my girlfriend and family, I knew this was the right decision to make," he revealed.

"I'm really excited about what is happening at Coleraine and wanted to be part of it.”

New Head Coach Dean Shiels - who takes over the role with Oran Kearney moving upstairs as Sporting Director - says he's pleased to have secured the services of one of the league's top strikers for another three seasons at least.

“Matthew is of huge importance to the group," Shiels admitted.

"His teammates love to play with him because of how hard he works and is a nightmare for defenders to play against.

"I'm absolutely delighted that he has committed to the club and I think that sets the precedent that this is the direction the club is going. Matthew is really keen in buying into what we are doing hear and hopefully that will ring out around the league and players who might want to come and join.”
