Michael O'Neill tips Liam Boyce to play at higher level

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill believes striker Liam Boyce could adapt to playing football at a higher level.

The 26-year-old has just finished his 3rd season with Ross County having scored 20 goals in the Scottish Premiership, meaning only Celtic's Scott Sinclair has more.

Boyce also claimed the April Player of the Month award after scoring 6 goals in 5 games.

O'Neill claims there is significant interest in Boyce in both England and Scotland.

"He's a bit like Gareth McAuley in his current situation just in a different position. It's 3 years since I took Liam to South America when he was out of contract at Cliftonville and it's taken him time. His first 6 months at Ross County were difficult, but this year there's been constant improvement."

With Kyle Lafferty recently released from Norwich after a season of relative inactivity, O'Neill says there is a big opportunity for Boyce in the national team.

"This is his best season. He's put it together for the whole season, and he'll come to us at the end of May, and we'll see how he is. But he's knocking on the door, and he's in my thoughts."

"I don't name him in the squad not to play him, it's as simple as that. Liam has been watched very regularly. His scoring record has been phenomenal this season."
