BOXING: Classy Conlan gets back on track
Michael Conlan produced an imperious display to get back to winning ways in the ring at the SSE Arena last night.
The Belfast man got the better of Miguel Marriaga by unanimous decision on home turf - having knocked the Colombian to the canvas three times during the fight.
Despite Marriaga gaining something of a second wind, featherweight Conlan stood firm to take the decision. It was the perfect way for the 30-year-old to return, by seeing off a tough opponents in style having been beaten by Leigh Wood in the WBA title decider back in March.
It now opens up the possibility of an eventual rematch with Wood, with many believing Conlan was in charge during that bout, before being knocked out with 90 seconds to go.
On last night's undercard in Belfast, there were wins for Tyrone McKenna, Padraig McCrory, Kurt Walker, Sean McComb and Fearghus Quinn amongst others.
