After an unseasonably cool start to May there is some good news.

Forecasters at the Met Office are predicting an upturn in mercury levels this week as Northern Ireland looks set to finally get its first taste of spring;

"High pressure will become established across the UK, which will bring plenty of fine, dry and settled weather, with increasing amounts of sunshine."

"Temperatures on the whole are likely to be around the average for time of year, but perhaps becoming warm or very warm for a time."

The almost perfect week of weather for the start of the International North West 200 road races and Balmoral Show as temperatures look set to reach 19-21C widely across the province.

Many of us will be dusting off our barbecues.... but will the good weather last into the weekend?

Worth noting, while it will feel pleasantly mild, unfortunately there is no likelihood of a return to the sort of record breaking temperatures witnessed last year that saw parts of the province hotter the south of Spain and Portugal.
