We want your Cool pumpkin pics
By Tara McLaughlin
Every October we spend hours breaking nails and fighting with a pumpkin to don our pretty porches with. We have to, it's tradition and the kids love it. But ever wondered why we carve pumpkins at Halloween?
The ancient tradition dates back to the 17th Century when a man with a lantern nicknamed Jack, used to light street lights when the evenings began to get darker. They used any fruit or vegetable they could find to carve. Beetroots and turnips were the order of the day. Hence the phrase "Jack O Lantern" was born.
Now we use pumkins as they put up much less of a fight than turnips and beetroots, and they save our delicate nails.
We're all guilty of playing keeping up with the Joneses when it comes to our makeshift creations. It's a family event now, the wackier the better and the kids look forward to it all month.
And we want yours!
Tweet or facebook your perfect pumpkin pics and we'll pick 10 of the best for our galleries. Happy carving listeners.
