Stormont leaders in London to meet with Chancellor
They'll discuss the pressure on Northern Ireland's finances
Stormont leaders are in London today to discuss the pressure on Northern Ireland's finances with the Chancellor.
The meeting with Rachel Reeves comes just days after the Executive published its programme for government
Earlier this week Stormont’s Finance Minister urged Executive colleagues to take "urgent action" to rein in spending, after revealing that departments are currently overcommitted by £767 million.
Speaking on Twitter ahead of the meeting First Minister Michelle O’Neill said, “Our people and public services deserve fair funding, and this Thursday we will meet with Chancellor Rachel Reeves and make that case directly to the British government.”
“For 14 years, the Tories decimated public services with their cruel cuts. The new British government must not follow that same heartless agenda that pushed workers, families, and services to the brink.”
“The Executive is united in its determination to secure fair funding to transform health, education, and all our public services.”
