Snow could make a return next week as temperatures set to plummet 🥶☃️
It is set to turn much colder
Last updated 4th Feb 2021
A week-long cold snap is expected to chill Northern Ireland from this weekend.
Easterly winds are set to bring a blast of Siberian air from Scandanavia towards us.
Temperatures will drop close to freezing during the day and well below that overnight, when there will be sharp widespread frosts and the risk of ice.
Heavy snow showers could develop through the middle part of next week.
The Met Office long-range weather forecast isn't ruling out the possibility of widespread snow between Sunday and Thursday.
"It will likely feel cold or very cold, especially in brisk easterly winds with overnight frosts. Wintry showers could feed in from the Irish sea. Any organised areas of cloud and precipitation arriving from the southwest will not progress very far as a result of high pressure. However, there is potential for widespread snow across areas where they bump into cold air. Patches of ice and other disruptive wintry hazards remain a possibility for all areas."
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued which comes into effect from midnight on Monday.
Exact locations for the snow and how much will accumulate is still a little uncertain at this stage.
There is one thing for certain - it is set to be chillier than usual heading into mid-February.
