Rory McIlroy co-hosted the Cool FM Breakfast Show this morning
Rory had the Christmas craic with Pete, Paulo & Rebecca - Rewatch here!
World Number two golfer Rory McIlroy dropped into the Cool studios this morning. The Holywood man is home for Christmas and took some time out to chat to Pete, Paulo and Rebecca on breakfast, despite his glandular fever.
The 27 year old chatted all things sport, love, Christmas at home in Norn Iron and why he'll never dye his hair.
Rory blamed his mate Darren Clarke for his willingness to accept the silver fox look.
"If you're in hot climates, I learnt this from Darren Clarke and you wear a cap, the hair dye kind of runs sometimes."
There are glimpses of Rory's down-to-earth persona at press conferences but perhaps the most telltale sign of his personality, was his Christmas gesture at the weekend.
Rory flew to Ireland especially to present a 9 year old boy with a special Christmas gift, live on Irish television. Young Charlie Smyth got the shock of his life when his hero turned up to present him with the McIlroy video game he'd been playing. Something he reluctantly admits he doesn't play himself as he's 'too old.'
"I got the call 2-3 days before. I was supposed to be in London on Friday night but when I got the call I thought no this is a really nice thing to do and it will make a little boy's Christmas even better so I flew back to Dublin that night and did it."
Pete quizzed him on all the things we want to know about McIlroy but the listeners had their say too.
The sporting hero cited Royal County Down as his favourite golf course in Northern Ireland and opened up about his wedding plans next year.
Being the good sport that he is, he even answered our 'Cool Before School' phone call.
