Road safety warning ahead of festive period
Almost 60 people have died so far this year on our roads
Road safety groups in the North West are appealing to drivers to take care in the run up to Christmas.
57 people have died so far this year on Northern Ireland's roads.
It's hoped the figure won't surpass last year's of 71.
The North West Road Safety Partnership is hosting an event in Londonderry's Guildhall to highlight the dangers.
It is in conjunction with other emergency services including the PSNI and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
Chris Arthur is from the group and tells Downtown Cool FM this is the most dangerous time of year for motorists:
"We have 57 lives lost on our roads this year already.
"We're at the same amount of lives that we've had at this point already in November last year.
"Everybody's out to get from A to B and especially in this festive period coming up and over these winter months.
"Unfortunately November and December are two of the worst months for road deaths in Northern Ireland and we really need to be getting into people's heads early that we all have a duty when we get out onto the road."
