The PSNI is requesting to meet the family of a care worker who died after witnessing an antisocial incident in Newry.

Police say they want to understand the circumstances of the death of Anu Okusanya.

The 46-year-old died days after she collapsed after seeing an attack in the area on August, 24.

Police said they have made contact with her family and wish to meet with them in person.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the PSNI said:

"The Police Service of Northern Ireland would like to meet with Ms Okusanya’s family before making any further comment.

"Police have spoken, by telephone, with a family member, a meeting has been suggested and will take place at an agreeable and appropriate time.

"It is important that we take care to establish the full facts and engage with Ms Okusanya’s family in a way that is sensitive to their grief and to the circumstances."

The Chief Constable also confirmed her relatives have been approached.

Speaking at a policing board meeting on Thursday, Jon Boutcher said contact has been made:

"We have reached out to that family.

"I don't want to speak about specific cases, with a number of these cases we want to speak to the families before we speak in a public forum about those issues but we have reached out to that family."
