A night of shocks, surprises and crushing blows

As the night and morning unfolded it was clear this would be a General Election like no other. Downtown and Cool FM reporters JORDAN MOATES and DAMIEN EDGAR were there throughout the early hours to record all of the shocks and surprises.

In the end, it was a crushing victory for both the DUP and Sinn Fein – all at the expense of the UUP and SDLP which were wiped out at Westminster.

The counting ended in the early hours with the DUP taking 10 of Northern Ireland’s 18 seats with SF gaining seven.

The final seat was reserved for Lady Sylvia Hermon retaining her North Down constitutency.
