A number of men - one of whom was armed with a poker - forced their way into a house on the Portadown Road in Tandragee last night.

After threatening the pensioners, the robbers tied them up and locked them in the bathroom. They then made off with a sum of cash.

The couple suffered minor cuts to their wrists and were left badly shaken by the ordeal.

Inspector Philip Quinn said: “The intruders spoke with southern accents and wore black clothes, scarves covering their faces and woollen hats. It is unclear at this time if they left the scene in a vehicle or on foot."

"I would appeal to anyone who may have any information about the incident, or who witnessed any suspicious activity to contact officers in Armagh on 101 quoting reference number 1221 of the 09/03/17. Or alternatively if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
