An online business based in Bangor is providing practical solutions for small male pooches with uncontrollable bladders.
‘Dogarees’ earn their name from their shoulder strap design which prevents dogs from slipping out of them, and are popular with ones suffering from hind leg paralysis who drag themselves.
The detachable denim garments provide maximum protection from unwanted accidents inside and come in various sizes and thicknesses to suit the weather!
Jacqui Robinson, the brains behind the creation, says her first pug Ernie inspired her to come up with the easy solution for disabled dogs: “Ernie was both disabled and incontinent.
“There’s a thing called a ‘belly band’ for male dogs which wraps around them and stops them peeing in the house but it didn’t work on him because he dragged himself so it would just fall off.
“This made me want to design something that would work around that and start selling them to others with the same problem.”
Demand for pets skyrocketed during the pandemic with 3.2 million new additions to families across the UK, which has brought orders in from everywhere says Jacqui.
“Being a member of the Pug Dog Welfare and Rescue Association, I began making them just for pugs but then I started getting requests for other small dogs with bladder problems like chihuahuas.
“I get orders from all over the world now, including America and Finland.”
