A four-year-old boy has died on a farm in County Fermanagh.

Police said they were called to the incident in Maguiresbridge around 8.30 last night.

It is understood the youngster was killed in an incident involving a JCB-type digger.

Inspector Glen Latimer said: “The child was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Local PSNI will work closely with the Health and Safety Executive as they investigate the circumstances.”

UUP MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Tom Eillott knows the child’s family.

He told Downtown & Cool FM: “It is really, really tragic for the family – really, really difficult for the community.

“This is a family who lost a son, a grandson, a brother … I hope they are able to cope with this situation.”

And DUP leader and MLA for the area Arlene Foster expressed her sympathy.

She said, "This is devastating news and I wish to express my sympathy to the family.

“In the close knit farming community of Fermanagh, news of this untimely death has caused a great deal of shock.

The family will be in my thoughts and prayers today and in the weeks to come, as they mourn the loss of a young life taken under such tragic circumstances."
