Cyclist kicked and punched off his bike in city centre

A cyclist in his 20s has been kicked off his bike and attacked in Belfast city centre.

The incident happened close to the junction of Waring Street and Victoria Street on Monday afternoon.

After he was kicked off his bike, he was then kicked and punched when he was on the ground.

It was reported he sustained an injury to his head.

Inspector David McBride said:

"Two men, aged 22 and 28, were arrested following the incident on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent. Both men remain in custody assisting us with our enquiries.

"This was a vicious assault and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around this time and saw what happened to contact us. I would also appeal to any driver in the area at the time who has a dash cam fitted to their vehicle to check their footage.

"Anyone with information is asked to call us on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 754 of 06/08/18.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
