6 Things That Should Be On Your Northern Ireland Bucket List
By Jessikah Hope Stenson
One thing you should never do is underestimate Northern Ireland. From music and sport to television and the great outdoors, our wee country never falls short!
So make the most of it and find out what you need to add to your Northern Ireland bucket list.
1. Belsonic and Tennent’s Vital
With these awesome festivals right on our doorstep there’s really no reason to miss them. The festivals bring a whole host of musicians to Northern Ireland every year including the likes of Foo Fighters, Calvin Harris and our very own Snow Patrol.
Your ma might be wondering who Avicii is but he’s sure to blow her socks off.
2. Catch a big NI Sports Game
The NI football team have just gone ten games unbeaten and are on their way to France this summer. Elsewhere the Belfast Giants keep packing out the Odyssey while Casement Park is home to the Antrim Gaelic Football and hurling teams.
If you’re more of a rugby fan there’s no better country to see a kicker (cough, Jonny Sexton, cough).
3. Go Game Of Thrones Crazy
When you tell anyone outside of Northern Ireland that Game Of Thrones is in fact partly filmed here it’s always met with a gasp of surprise… Shortly followed by serious envy. With two different tours in County Down, you can immerse yourself in this crazy cool universe.
If not, it’s always fun to go celebrity hunting and see how many selfies you can get with the cast.
4. Hit Up The Giant’s Causeway
Forget about the Grand Canyon, Northern Ireland has its very own natural wonder. The Giant’s Causeway is a formation of chimney towered rocks.
Some say it’s the result of a volcanic eruption but we all know it’s down to Irish giant Finn MacCool (no, he’s not an ice hockey player – not that kind of giant)
5. Go Travelling down the Marble Arch Caves
County Fermanagh’s hidden gem the Marble Arch Caves showcase rivers, waterfalls and passages. Take a tour, walk, crouch and crawl your way through another Northern Ireland beauty.
As your ma would say, “Don’t forget your coat! It’ll be baltic down there!”
6. Try Local Food
St George’s Market Belfast is a fab favourite but don’t forget to make the most of all the fresh Irish bread and fifteens that are never the same abroad.
Obviously no one can forget an Ulster Fry...but it’s the Northern Ireland Year of Food & Drink so make sure you avail of some of the fantastic things going on across the country. See www.discovernorthernireland.com for more information.
