Fitness lovers, there's a new form of yoga coming to Northern Ireland that involves bringing your four-legged furry friend with you.
Bullitt Hotel will shortly be holding their first yoga session for dogs and their owners at their rooftop bar area, taking the downward dog to new heights.
It sounds silly at first – but 'Doga' is growing in popularity across the globe.
Described as a unique bonding experience for you and your pet, Tracy Stuart is the yoga instructor behind the practice. She has taught yoga for over eleven years;
“I’m really looking forward to teaching this new style of yoga, one of which both dogs and their owners can enjoy. Yoga is an excellent way of eliminating the tension we carry around from everyday stresses and by having your pet pooch there with you, it will offer a fun, light-hearted element to the yoga practice."
“I’d started hearing about Doga being taught by other practitioners in various cities and was quite intrigued by it, so decided to try it out on my own dog, Millie. Millie is a seven-year-old mongrel with a lot of energy, but after the Doga session, she seemed much calmer and quite relaxed."
Michael Sullivan, General Manager of Bullitt, said:
“We are looking forward to welcoming guests and their four-legged friends to what will be a fun and enjoyable event. The interest in this type of yoga practice has been really exciting and Doga at the rooftop could likely become a regular event.”
Having a dog is not necessary at Doga. You can borrow somebody else's pet.
If you are interested in signing up, the first Doga at Babel Rooftop Bar takes place on Sunday 12th August 2018 at 10:15am. Homemade dog treats and water will be provided.
The session will last for just over an hour and comprise of various meditation, breathing, stretching and gentle massage techniques, helping guests and their dogs to relax while spending quality time together.
Doga is for small dogs under 12kg and owners must bring their own yoga mat and pet blanket.
