Instagram are introducing TWO new features to the popular social network and we're pretty sure that a lot of fans will want to use them. The first addition will be a 'mute' feature which will allow you to hide someone's photos from your feed, however they won't know that you've muted them!

Everyone has a friend who likes to constantly post photos of their breakfasts, holidays or selfies, and whilst of course you love to see them once in a while 10 times a day is a 'little' too much!

This is when the new 'mute' function would be perfect. Your friend would never know that you have muted them AND you can still view their photos if you go directly to their profile. Good news all round!

The second feature to be added to the photo sharing network is 'You're All Caught Up' indicator. According to Forbes, this new feature will show whether you have seen all the photos/videos from the past 48 hours from a particular user.

Since Instagram changed the way they display photos from a simple chronological feed, it's sometimes difficult to see if you're fully up-to-date, this new feature should help users know when they are.

The addition of these new features have been welcomed by Instagram users who have taken to social media saying, 'you can mute people on instagram now I’m bout to get back on instagram, 'sic

Others also said it was a great idea...

BuzzFeed are also reporting that a rep for the company said there was clearly a user demand for the mute function, “We've also heard it may be a useful tool for managing complex social dynamics,” they explained.

So, the question you're probably all asking is 'when will I be able to use these new functions?' Well, for some, they will be available now, others will have to wait longer and reports are suggesting it could take a few weeks for the changes to be available.

If it is available to you, this it how you enable the mute function.

  • Tap the '...' menu in the corner of a post.
  • Choose whether to mute posts, or mute posts and stories.

Time to get started...
