ITV bosses have announced that ITV reality show Survival of the Fittest has been axed after just one series. Dani Dyer, who won this year's Love Island with her boyfriend Jack Fincham, took part in the show.

Survival of the Fittest was presented by Irish star Laura Whitmore, who took part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2016, and filmed on a snazzy location in South Africa - but it sadly failed to pull in enough viewers to keep going.

An ITV spokesperson revealed that there are "no current plans for a further series" of Survival Of The Fittest. They added that it had been "an ambitious and brilliantly produced show," and that the show bosses wanted to thank presenters Laura and Brennan as well as the team who worked on the show.

Survival of the Fittest was pitched as the winter version of hit summer show Love Island, but only 600,000 viewers tuned in when it was aired on ITV2 in March this year.

According to Metro.co.uk, the TV source added, "Shooting it in South Africa inevitably comes with a cost and unfortunately execs at ITV couldn’t justify a second series. But ITV have got some brilliant things lined up on ITV2 for next year."

ITV described the show on their site, "Survival of the Fittest puts a team of girls and a team of boys together in a luxury Lodge under the searing South African sun where they go head-to-head, in order to win a big cash prize."

Dani dislocated her shoulder during the first challenge of the show and she was forced to quit because of her injury. But this was no great loss for Dani, who of course went on to win Love Island with her boyfriend Jack Fincham in August.

And whilst there have been rumours of turmoil in the Fincham/Dyer household after Dani revealed that Jack is a VERY messy housemate, he put the rumours to bed by declaring his love for her in an interview with Love Island 2017 winner Kem Cetinay.
