Netflix set to increase subscription price for UK customers

Popular TV streaming service Netflix have confirmed they will be increasing the subscription price for UK customers. However, the basic subscription, which is currently £5.99 a month will remain the same.

Both the standard and premium tariffs will be increasing by £1 and £2 a month respectively, raising the standard tariff to £8.99 a month, with the premium tariff, which allows up to four devices stream at the same time, rising to £11.99 a month.

The price changes will come into effect immediately for new subscribers, with existing users seeing the changes over the next few weeks. Speaking about the decision, a Netflix spokesperson said the price increase was, "To reflect the significant investments we've made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product."

In recent years, a number of new series have been added to Netflix including Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy and The Rain.

Our Planet was filmed over four years, and combines the spectacular photography of Planet Earth with an unprecedented look at the planet's remaining wilderness areas and their animal inhabitants.

ELITE Season 2

ELITE returns for another season in 2019. Following the children at Las Encinas, the best and most exclusive school in Spain, in the first season viewers got to see what happened when three working class kids were admitted to the elite school after their academy was destroyed by an earthquake.

Disenchantment Season 2

From the creator of The Simpsons, Disenchantment returns for a second season. This adult animated comedy fantasy series was super popular earlier this year and returns for Netflix in 2019.

Stranger Things 3

Another popular Netflix series that we can watch is Stranger Things 3.

The streaming company currently has around 10 million users in the UK, and they have invested millions of pounds in to UK content.

Despite this, many fans aren't happy and have taken to Twitter. One tweeted, 'just heard about Netflix subscription price rise. Everything is going up these days 😡', with another saying, 'I'm glad that I cancelled my Netflix before the price rise. All of these subscription services add up over the year.'

However, some users were still happy with the service as one tweeted, 'As long as @netflix renew @LuciferNetflix For season 5, I don’t care about the price rise! In fact it will be well worth it! #RenewLucifer #Lucifans #LuciferSeason5 #Netflix'.
