Love Island viewers up and down the country were left slightly baffled after it was confirmed that Samira Mighty had decided to leave the villa to pursue her relationship with Frankie Foster. Samira had been coupled up with Frankie Foster until he was dumped earlier this week - but viewers had been confused over their intense reaction to being separated by the public vote.

However, it's now come to light that Samira and Frankie had quite a serious thing going together - and that most of their scenes together didn't make the final cut.

As Samira left the villa in scenes that were shown in last night's episode (12th July), she took some of the girls to one side and said, "So my lovely beautiful girls, you guys know that I’ve had a really tough couple of days here recently and I’ve been umming and ahhing about leaving.

"I’ve not had any connection in here with anyone and I had a little taste of that with Frankie and it’s gone abruptly and I think I’d always be thinking, 'What if.' I woke up this morning and I thought, it’s my time to go... I have to do this for me, I’ve never felt so strong."

However, since leaving the villa, Frankie has spoken out about their time together, revealing that there was a lot more that happened between the two of them than what viewers saw on the show.

Which Love Island couples are still together?

Series One: Cally Jane Beech and Luis Morrison

The only surviving couple from Love Island series one is Cally Jane Beech and Luis Morrison.

After finding love on the show, Cally and Luis announced they were expecting their first child together and later welcomed their daughter Vienna Morrison-Beech.

According to Cosmopolitan, Frankie said that "everyone was cheering for them" in the villa, and that his and Samira's relationship had been a "big thing," but admitted that "for one reason or another," more of their scenes together were cut.

He even confessed that the two of them had spent the night together in The Hideaway - and fans are now completely riled by the news that this wasn't shown, taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations.

ITV spoke to Metro.co.uk, saying, "We don’t necessarily show every moment in The Hideaway owing to the constraints of it only being a one hour show."

Now that the truth has come out about their relationship, fans are over the moon for the couple, as it's only the second time in Love Island history that someone has left the villa voluntarily in the pursuit of love, after Rykard left for Rachel in series 2. Aww!

Thankfully, it looks like Frankie and Samira will be reunited at the first available opportunity, as Frankie uploaded a super sweet snap to his Instagram account.

Frankie also revealed that Samira had snuck a pair of pants into his suitcase without him noticing, posting a photo on his Instagram with the adorable caption, 'Just got the chance to unpack properly and look what I found. 👀 Not sure when she managed to sneak this in my case but it makes me even more excited to see her💕.'

He also revealed in a Q&A on his Instagram Story that he had actually encouraged Samira to stay in the villa as it was a "once in a lifetime opportunity."

In last night's episode (12th July), viewers were left on the edge of their seats, waiting to see if fan-favourite Dr. Alex George would be leaving the villa in the latest recoupling. Talk about cliffhanger! The result of whoever new girl Alexandra Cane picks will be revealed tonight.

Love Island continues on ITV2 tonight at 9pm.
