Love Island viewers were left confused and upset after it was revealed that fan-favourite Niall Aslam had left the villa in the second week of the 2018 series. The 23-year-old's departure was announced by fellow Islander Dr. Alex George, who told the other contestants that Niall had left in a statement.

It read, "For personal reasons unfortunately he can’t continue or come back to the Villa," leaving many fans left wondering why the construction worker might have quit the show.

Which Love Island couples from the past are still together?

Series One: Cally Jane Beech and Luis Morrison

The only surviving couple from Love Island series one is Cally Jane Beech and Luis Morrison.

After finding love on the show, Cally and Luis announced they were expecting their first child together and later welcomed their daughter Vienna Morrison-Beech.

But after a couple of weeks, Niall set the record straight on his Instagram profile, writing that he'd been struggling with his diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome, 'For far too long I have suffered in silence and not acknowledged a massive fact about my life which going into the villa has led me to finally realise and accept.

'It's not been an easy ride for me to come to terms with this fact but I am glad that I can now accept who I am, and am looking forward to my next chapter,' also thanking the team at ITV and the British public for their support.

However, Niall has now revealed that he has some exciting plans for his next career steps - he's writing a book about his experiences.

According to Metro.co.uk, Niall said that he was writing about "what he's been though," adding that he wants to "put out a positive message" and that if he's able to help one person in a similar situation "that’s great."

The publication also report that he hoped people could learn to "embrace themselves more" as it would help people to "cope better."

We can't wait to read it!
