One of the most intense recouplings ever took place on Love Island last night, with the nation's sweethearts Jack and Dani reuniting, Wes getting a taste of his own medicine and poor little Georgia getting her heartbroken. But it was Dr Alex George's comment to the boys that left viewers in shock.

Ahead of the recoupling, the A&E doctor was in the bedroom chatting about which of the girls he'd like to share a bed with, either Charlie or Grace, when he made a comment that left viewers thinking he'd gotten too big for his boots. Speaking in the bedroom, Alex said, "There was an 89th minute substitution. So Gracie is in the bed, Charlie is on the subs bench. We’ll see how it goes really. She’s a nice girl. I don’t know if it’s a romantic thing yet but we’ll see."

After his comment about the 'subs bench', viewers of the ITV2 show took to Twitter to vent their anger at Alex, with some dismissing his behaviour...

Meanwhile, despite seemingly getting on well with Charlie during the first few days in Casa Amor, Alex decided to couple up with Grace during last night show, meaning new girl Charlie was sent packing.

Speaking after leaving the villa, Charlie said, "I did want to couple up with Dr Alex at the start. I got on really well with him but I also felt I should get to know everyone. Once I spoke to everyone I couldn’t deny how much I got on with Alex. If he comes out of the villa single, I’d definitely like to go on a date with Alex."

Despite his disrespectful comment, most viewers will be hoping Dr Alex gets on well with Grace in the villa, after four weeks of being single. Despite being coupled up with Samira and Ellie in the past, both relationships were just friendships, with neither girl finding a physical attraction in the 27-year-old.

Love Island returns to ITV2 this evening at a slightly later time of 9.30pm, due to the football on ITV.
