Whilst roadmaps are being revealed across the UK to end lockdown, there’s still one more major decision we’re awaiting with bated breath: will Love Island go ahead this year?

There’s been much speculation about the ITV2 dating show finally returning to our screens this summer after last year’s series was postponed due to the pandemic, with reports claiming producers are pulling out all the stops to make this year’s edition “the biggest in show history”.

Well, the show’s host, Laura Whitmore, has provided an update on the new series – and it’s looking promising.

“I have been told that it’s coming back,” she told Stella magazine.

Laura added, “I love doing it, it's such a fun show. And I actually think it's been good to have had that break, for everyone who works on it, because we all went through a loss.

“It's nice to realise how much people missed the show. Apparently applications are crazy this year. Let's just pray the vaccines kick in.”

We’ve got everything crossed. 🤞

It was recently reported that show bosses are exploring all options to ensure Love Island returns this year, with a source claiming that the next batch of Islanders could be swapping Marbella for the sunny climes of the UK!

Iain Stirling recently hinted the show could be filmed in the UK, telling metro.co.uk, "Hey, let’s see what happens. Like I said, I’ve no idea, but it could be quite amusing seeing Love Island contestants embracing the beaches of Bognor Regis at some point.

"When they can’t eat their dinner because seagulls are taking it off the plate… it could mix it up.

"I genuinely thought I’m A Celeb was so brilliant this year, it’s an option."

Laura’s Love Island revelation comes as she prepares to give birth to her first child with husband Iain Stirling.

The TV presenter announced her exciting pregnancy news on Instagram back in December when she told fans, 'So I’ve always tried to be protective over the personal side of my life. A lot of things are just for me and my loved ones and we’ve chosen not to share publicly.

'However I want to now share good news as it’s our news to share - and I’m gonna be honest it’s starting to look like my lock down beer belly is out of control. Iain and I are expecting a baby early 2021'. (sic)

It’s certainly been a busy year for the couple, who got married in secret last November, and with both a baby and new Love Island on the way, it’s only set to get busier.
