Winter is coming
Last updated 15th Jan 2019
Finally, after much teasing, the date for the eighth and final ever series of Game of Thrones has been revealed. Both official Twitter accounts for Game of Thrones and HBO tweeted an official teaser for the new series, revealing that the series will return to screens in the US on the 14th April.
It has also been revealed that here in the UK, die hard fans will be able to view the new series on the 15th April at 2am on Sky Atlantic. The show will also be aired on NOW TV.
So, what do we know about the new series of Game of Thrones, other than it being the final one? There will be six episodes in the final season of the show, which will air nearly two years after the seventh season finished.
Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Lena Headey are all set to reprise their roles in the final season, with Maisie (who plays Arya Stark), posting a photo of some shoes covered in blood after the wrap party took place last year. Some fans think this was a spoiler and an indication to what happens to her character.
Maisie captioned the photo, 'goodbye belfast. goodbye arya. goodbye game of thrones. what a joy i’ve had. here’s to the adventures to come #lastwomanstanding #barely #immasleepforthenextfouryears #justkiddingidontsleep' sic.
Since filming for the new series ended, other actors have also reflected on the series, with Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister explaining how he felt as he said "goodbye" to the character he had played since the beginning of the series in 2011.
"I had my last day on set in July, just over two months ago now and it was very sad," the Tyrion Lannister actor explained.
"This is not only a great TV show to be a part of, but it was an enormous family to be a part of."
Last year, Game of Thrones was hugely successful at the Emmys taking home many awards, including Peter Dinklage winning Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
