Actor Dean Gaffney is returning to his role in EastEnders after first making his debut way back in 1993.

Dean, who briefly returned to the soap back in 2010 and 2015, has this time signed a full time contract to portray his role of Robbie.

Speaking about his return, Dean said, “I’m really happy to be back. I’m so lucky to be given the chance to work again with such a talented group of people. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun."

Dean last appeared on the soap as Robbie when he visited for eight episodes back in 2015. The character was back in Walford when he played a small role in his mum Carol's farewell plot.

Dean first left the soap 14 years ago when his character moved to India for a new life with his wife Nita. However when he returned briefly in 2015, it was revealed Robbie's relationship didn't work out and he's since been living in Milton Keynes.

Speaking about Dean's return, boss Sean O'Connor said, "Bridge Street Market has never quite been the same without Robbie policing it in his hi-viz jacket.

"Dean brings a wonderful warmth and fun to his portrayal of Robbie and I’m sure that audiences will take him to their hearts again, just as they have always done."

It also looks like Robbie will return with his beloved dog Wellard II, after the original Wellard sadly died on screen.
