Ever since Coronation Street fans discovered that Liz and Jim McDonald's stillborn daughter was returning - having supposedly not died after all - skepticism has been RIFE. And in last night's episode (12th Sept), suspicions were confirmed as they conspired in the car and revealed that they were actually enacting a revenge plot on Liz after she refused to helphim get out of prison.

After finding her, Jim introduced Liz to their daughter on Monday's episode (10th Sept), telling her that she'd not died after all, and had been adopted by Australian parents - despite Liz being told that her baby, who she'd called Katie, had died minutes after being born.

However, following the emotional reunion, Jim and 'Katie' got into a car where Jim joked that she'd been a "good daughter," as she replied, "Don't call me that, you know I'm neither," before they leapt at each other for a VERY steamy smooch.

Viewers were gobsmacked by the fast-moving chain of events that revealed 'Katie' was really NOT 'Katie'. She's posing as their deceased daughter in a bid to con poor Liz out of her savings - Jim's plan of revenge.

Fans of the show were obviously shocked - not only at the fact that Jim was enjoying a secret relationship with a woman who was pretending to be his daughter, but also for exploiting Liz's devastating loss years earlier.

Actress Beverley Callard, who has played the character of Liz on the cobbles for almost 30 years, was commended for her performance in 1992 after their baby was born prematurely and died soon after, as storylines around baby loss had not really been covered on a soap very much before then.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their disbelief.

However, episodes airing next week will show the family take a DNA test - will this catch them out?
