Coronation Street fans were left baffled by yesterday’s (Monday 20th January) episode when Bethany Platt seemingly failed to notice the fire raging at Chesney Brown and Gemma Winter’s house.

Scenes where Bethany headed to the garage to speak to Abi Franklin about Ray Crosby show a fire blazing inside No. 5, but Bethany is none the wiser – despite being just feet away from the inferno.

Viewers took to Twitter to express their confusion, with one writing, 'Didn’t Bethany see the fire from across the street she was looking directly at it #coronationstreet', sic

'Someone tell me how Bethany and the car lady didn’t see the flames at Chesney’s house when they were standing right opposite it?!??' said another.

One more tweeted, 'For God's sake, don't you think Abbie or Bethany would have noticed that fire?'. sic

Chesney and Gemma’s home was attacked by an unidentified vandal who wrote 'paedo' on the window in red paint and posted a burning rag through their letterbox as Gemma slept upstairs with the quads.

But despite the commotion being in full view of the street, no one seemed to notice what happened until Chesney arrived home with the shopping and called for help.

Meanwhile, Gemma’s brother Paul Foreman has been involved in a traumatic sexual abuse storyline over the last few months.

After their mum, Bernie Winter, got back in touch with her ex-boyfriend Kel, Paul began to realise that the secret relationship he’d had with Kel when he was a child was abuse, and made the decision to give a statement to police.

Initially disbelieving, recent episodes have seen Bernie vow to get revenge, and most recently leave the cobbles all together after lamenting brought trouble to their door.

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
