The release date his been pushed back this year

Published 8th Nov 2013

The X Factor winner's single will be released on the Christmas Number 1 sales week for the first time in three years.

Although they both eventually topped the charts, Little Mix’s 2011 single ‘Cannonball’ and James Arthur’s ‘Impossible’ in 2012 were released a week earlier than previous years.

This paved the way for Military Wives’ ‘Wherever You Are’ and The Justice Collective’s ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ both topping the charts at Christmas in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Primed for release on 16th December, The X Factor winner's single will now enjoy its strongest sales week in time for the Christmas charts on 22nd December.

Previous winners Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Shayne Ward, Matt Cardle and Leon Jackson all have enjoyed festive chart toppers.

Steve Brookstein’s 2004 single ‘Against All Odds’ was released a week after the Christmas chart race and Joe McElderry’s cover of ‘The Climb’ was beaten to the 2009 festive no.1 by Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name’.
