Little Mix will release a cover of the eighties funk anthem ‘Word Up!’ as their next single.

Set for release digitally on Sunday 16th March and on CD the following day, all proceeds from the track will go directly to the charity Sports Relief.

Announcing the song last night, Jade, Perrie, Jesy and Leigh-Anne tweeted: "We are really excited to announce this years official @SportRelief Single is called 'Word Up' sung by….. US!! xxLittle Mix xxx #SR14"

Perrie added: “We’ve all seen people push themselves and do incredible things for Sport Relief so it’s a dream come true to be releasing the official single this year. We can’t wait for you all to hear it!”

JLS released the last Sports Relief single in 2012, hitting number six with their self-penned track ‘Proud’.

The original ‘Word Up!’ single by Cameo was a no.3 smash in the UK in 1988. Spice Girl Mel B covered the song a decade later but it failed to dent the Top 10.
