Justin Bieber Charged With Assaulting Limousine Driver in Toronto
He hands himself in to police
Justin Bieber has been charged with assaulting a limousine driver in Canada in late December.
The teenage pop star voluntarily surrendered himself at a Toronto police yesterday (29th January) where hordes of fans and media were waiting for him.
Bieber’s lawyer says his client will plead not guilty to the one charge of assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on 10th March.
The alleged incident happened on Monday 30th December when Bieber and a group of five other people were picked up by a limousine outside a Toronto club.
A police statement reads: "While driving the group to a hotel, an altercation occurred between one of the passengers and the driver of the limousine.
"In the course of the altercation, a man struck the limousine driver on the back of the head several times.
"The driver stopped the limousine, exited the vehicle and called police. The man who struck him left the scene before police arrived."
The charge comes one week after Bieber was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in a yello Lamborghini sports car in Florida.
The Miami Beach Police report described three other offences - driving with an expired licence, speeding and resisting arrest without violence.
In America, over 100,000 people have signed a petition to get California resident Bieber deported from the country.
The petition read:
“We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”
Unless Bieber is charged with a more serious offence, it’s unlikely the Obama administration will take action.
