Beyoncé and Taylor Swift both made history at the Grammy Awards last night (14th March 2021).
Beyoncé is now the woman with the most Grammy Awards in the ceremony’s history, overtaking country artist Alison Krauss.
She won her 28th award, Best R&B performance, in honour of her single 'Black Parade', released last year in celebration of black power and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Upon collecting the award, she said, “I am so honoured, I'm so excited.
“As an artist, I believe it's my job to reflect the times, and it's been such a difficult time.
"So I wanted to uplift, encourage, celebrate all of the beautiful black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the world".
Taylor Swift became the first female artist to win the award for Album of the Year three times.
She picked up the Grammy for her album ‘Folklore’, released during lockdown last year. She has previously won the award for her album ‘Fearless’ in 2010 and pop favourite ‘1989’ in 2016.
Taylor joins only three other artists who have picked up the Album of the Year award three times, they are: Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.
The 63rd Grammy Awards took place outside at Los Angeles Convention Center and set the tone for forthcoming awards ceremonies this year, with all guests socially distanced and wearing masks.
The ceremony was made up of a mix of live and pre-recorded performances, with five stages arranged in a circle, inspired by the set up on the Jools Holland show.
‘Fine Line’ singer Harry Styles opened the ceremony, performing his hit ‘Watermelon Sugar’, followed by back-to-back performances by Billie Eilish and group Haim.
Harry went on to win his first ever Grammy for best pop solo performance, making him the first member of One Direction to win a Grammy.
After receiving the award, the Vogue cover star said, "I feel incredibly lucky to get to work in music and make music as my job every day and this is an incredibly sweet icing on the cake of what I get to do everyday, so thank you so much.
"And I want to thank my fans for giving me an environment to be free to make the music that I want to make and supporting me along the way over the last 10 years.
"And everyone who made this record with me and my label and my managers and everyone who supports me and everything, all of it, thank you so much.
"I feel very, very lucky tonight.”
