Ed Sheeran is a master songwriter, but he almost gave away his number one song 'Shape of You' to someone else!

In a recent interview with BeBox Ed revealed when he started to write 'Shape of You' he originally intended to give it to BRIT Award winners Little Mix.

"We started it for Little Mix originally," Ed explained, "halfway through I was like, actually this sounds like it could be good for Rihanna."

Ultimately Ed decided to keep it for himself saying, he thought "this is actually pretty good," so neither Little Mix or Rihanna got to see the track!

Ed released it himself earlier this year as one of his comeback singles and it went straight to number one in January.

The 26-year-old singer said originally he didn't want the song as it didn't sound like him, but then he added acoustic guitars to make it more 'his own'.

And we're so glad he did!

Ed joined us recently to play some of his hits, here he is performing 'Shape of You' exclusively for us.

Ed also performed 'Castle on the Hill'.

While Ed decided to keep 'Shape of You' for himself he decided to give 'Love Yourself' to Justin Bieber, here he is performing his own version of the hit.

Ed Sheeran has also written a number of songs for other artists including Taylor Swift, Olly Murs and One Direction.
