Ed Sheeran surprises fan by inviting him on stage to perform 'The A Team'
Luke likes to cover Ed's songs
Ed Sheeran is currently mid-way through his mini UK and Europe tour, including a few gigs in London, where he surprised a fan inviting him on stage at The O2 Arena.
Luke Gittins is a massive fan of Ed's and regularly covers his songs as soon as he releases them, so when Ed spotted him in the audience he decided to invite him on stage to perform alongside him.
Telling the audience, this hadn't been pre-planned, Ed said: "This guy who's front row here called Luke, he covers my songs and I see him on YouTube all the time, and I saw you today man. Do you want to come up and sing 'The A Team'? Everyone, say hi to Luke!"
Ed shared the video on Instagram writing: 'Every time I release a song @lukegittinsmusic is always the first to cover it. I saw him front row at the O2 yesterday and decided to bring him up, this was totally unplanned and he was so prepared and so amazing without any heads up whatsoever.
'Thanks so much Luke you’re wonderful. I used to do what Luke did and cover other peoples songs so people would check out my original material - that’s all singer songwriters want, to have their original songs heard by any means necessary. So please go and check out Luke’s original music, he’s fantastic. And also check out his awesome version of Eyes Closed while you’re at it x'.
Luke and Ed then performed 'The A Team' to a packed arena, with Ed then telling Luke: "Now Luke, do you want to see what 20,000 lights look like from up here? Do you want to ask them to get their lights out?"
The whole arena then lit up as Ed's fans turned on their phone lights and held them high in the sky for Luke.
Luke has since shared a video of him on TV speaking about the experience and performing part of a song he wrote called 'Room To No One'.
He then captioned his video: 'I feel like I’ve been trying to write this song for years. This is a song for any songwriters/creatives who feel like their hard work goes unnoticed. Never give up!
'I’ve booked studio sessions this week to finish the track for you all. Can’t wait for you to hear the verses.
'Thank you for all your support and a big thanks to BBC Points West for having me play.
'Luke x'.
Ed is continuing his mini tour, supported by Cian Ducrot, which will finish in Paris on 2nd April, before his continuing his '+-=÷x Tour' in North America.
