Craig David talks Ibiza, teaming up with Jonas Blue and the January blues
Speaking to Curtis McCosh on Friday afternoon, the Southampton based star who has sold over 15 million records worldwide as a solo artist, says this summer passed in a flurry of performances.
"It's been such an amazing rollercoaster ride...it was an amazing moment to be on that (Glastonbury) stage in front of that many people," he said.
"And also the Ibiza Rocks residency I've been doing with my TS5 show, so my Ibiza Rocks show being able to go over there and do my TS5 DJ set over there for ten weeks has been incredible.
"So I'm just really thankful that within that period of time I was able to put an album together that doesn't feel rushed and it felt very organic and natural."
Hid brand new song sees him teaming up with London producer Jonas Blue, best known for his house sound.
Craig said he knew the track was the perfect mix of dance and R & B.
"Jonas Blue produced the record and he had been a big fan of my music for a number of years and said how much 'Born to do it' was such a big record in him growing up," he said.
"I didn't know how much R & B music he loved, he played me a playlist of stuff he listened to and there was so much R & B I was like let's start off there because it would be interesting to see where you would take it.
"The first song we wrote together ended up being 'Heartline' and it just feels like it's got the Jonas Blue elements of some of the sounds but the R & B temperament of the song is very much in my lane.
"I'm really excited for people to hear when you get to the chorus it feels like you get the pay off in the chorus, rather than a hands-up-in-the-air kinda vibe for the drop it's more of a cooler drop."
Craig's new album which is due for release in January, features collaborations with big names such as JP Cooper, Dan from Bastille and AJ Tracey. He told Curtis he picks artists that sound "organic" to work with.
"The songs feel stronger than even the artists that are actually performing them," he said.
"This album just feels like there's so many songs on this that we could release as singles, it's got longevity."
"It'll be perfect for like once the Christmas meals are in and you're feeling like oh we now need to get the gym membership for January.
"You'll already be ready for the season you'll be booking your tickets for summer festivals, this is that album for that time but there'll be more singles going on between that time as well."
