He has been "signed off with stress"
Zayn Malik has quit One Direction's world tour after being “signed off with stress”.
This news follows a week of intense media scrutiny in which the singer has been forced to pay for a special drug-related work permit and defend his private life, after allegedly being pictured holding hands with girl who isn’t his fiancée Perrie Edwards from Little Mix.
He tweeted his 14.1 million followers yesterday, saying: “I’m 22 years old… I love a girl named Perrie Edwards and there's a lot of jelous f**** in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like".
Zayn and Perrie got engaged in August 2013 after meeting on The X Factor in 2011.
A spokesman for One Direction said: “Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate.
“The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta.”
One Direction are set to perform in Manila on 21st and 22nd March.
