The X Factor will return to television screens on Saturday 30th August, ITV has confirmed.

The first batch of auditions overseen by the new panel of judges - Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh – will be aired at 8pm.

However, it will clash for 15 minutes with the latest series of Doctor Who starring Peter Capaldi, which is on the BBC from 7.30pm to 8.15pm the same day.

In a double header, a second episode of The X Factor will be shown at 8pm on Sunday 31st August.

Unlikely more recent years, the first round will see the acts perform in a room for the judges before the successful entrants progress to the arena auditions.

Contestants this year include Robert Pattinson’s older sister Lizzy who has reportedly wowed the judges in the early stages.

Speaking to Entertainment NOW! earlier this month, Robert said he was “ridiculously proud” of his sibling.

He added: “I would never have the balls to do that (audition for The X Factor) in a million years. I can’t believe she’s done it. It’s amazing.”
