Winona Ryder has officially confirmed that a sequel to Beetlejuice is in the works!

The 43-year-old actress and star of the original eighties movie made the revelation during an appearance on American chat show Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Asked whether Tim Burton is making a follow up to his cult classic, Winona said: "I think I can confirm it.

"It was very hush hush, top secret, but then, when Tim was doing some press for (2014 movie) Big Eyes, an on-camera interview, he said 'Yeah, yeah, we’re doing it. Winona’s going to be in it.'"

Shortly before Christmas Tim Burton said a sequel was “closer than ever” and that Michael Keaton is the only person he’d consider casting in the lead role.

“There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael,” Tim told MTV.

“There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character.

“There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”

Released in 1988, Beetlejuice starred Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin as recently deceased couple Barbara and Adam Maitland who recruit fellow ghost Beetlejuice (Keaton) to scare away the new residents of their home.

As well as becoming a cult classic, it was also a box office success making five times more than its $15million budget.
