Waterloo station had a ghostly makeover this morning

It seemed to go down well with commuters.

This morning commuters at Waterloo station were treated to a surprise.

Stay Puft Marshmallow Man smashed his way into the station in the middle of the main concourse along with a pop-up New York Subway entrance, which was all part of a PR stunt to promote the new Ghostbusters film.

Commuters were encouraged to tweet their photos with the hashtag #GhostbustersWaterloo, some of which are below.

Some even enjoyed 'acting the part' of someone being captured by the Marshmallow Man.

Although Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was the main feature standing at 2.9 metres right in the middle of the concourse, even the CCTV poles hanging from the ceiling had been 'coated' in slime and eerie snatches of sound from New York City could be heard in a busy commuter tunnel as actors ran through them.

Not only is Waterloo station one of the busiest stations in Europe (and therefore a great place for this type of stunt), it is also the site of the London Necropolis Railway which used to transport en masse deceased Londoners to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey during the 19th century. Spooky!

The new Ghostbusters film is out today and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon.
