Suffragette has been announced as the Opening Night Film at the 59th BFI London Film Festival to be held in October.

Starring Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter Suffragette will have its European premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square with simultaneous screenings at cinemas across the UK.

Described as an intense drama Suffragette follows the 'foot soldiers' of the early feminist movement fighting for the female vote.

Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby and Far from the Madding Crowd) plays Maud whose fight for dignity is both heart-breaking and inspirational.

The film will be on general release on the 30th October 2015.
