George Clooney has arrived in Scotland to visit a sandwich shop – whose staff used to be homeless.

He was greeted by groups of screaming women as he appeared in Edinburgh to meet staff at the Bite café.

The café donates all its profits to good causes with some of the team having once been homeless.

It also offers a service whereby people can pay in advance so a homeless person can go in and have a hot drink or food.

Clooney told Sky News it was ‘fantastic’ and ‘loved the idea of paying it forward’ adding:

"I like what they're doing, I think it's a very important cause. I think the idea that we can all participate in everyone's difficulties is really important".

The actor also donated to the charity. Founder Josh Littlejohn said: "George is an incredible guy, someone who has achieved real global fame but thinks nothing of visiting a local sandwich shop to chat to the workers and discuss the issue of homelessness.

The actor will also speak at the Scottish Business Awards, with money from the event going towards charities such as the Social Bite Fund.
